HOW TO APPROACH ABORIGINAL INFUSION IN THE FINE ARTS
Philosophically, incorporating Aboriginal education in the Fine Arts will require teaching Aboriginal content explicitly, as well as incorporating the principles of Aboriginal learning into our classes with a greater regard to subtle and seamless implicit unit and lesson design.
In addition to the General Tips outlined on our resource main page (we strongly recommend reading that first), the role of the Fine Arts incorporating Principles of First Nations teaching focuses on:
-
Recognizing traditional methods of expression encouraging a sense of wonder, curiosity, and engagement with the arts.
-
Exploring the world through an artist lens that infuses student personal ideas, opinions, beliefs, and emotions with First Nations artistic methods of expression.
Below you will find links to Grade Specific Guides that align Course Competency and Content with suggested strategies.
