The story of the games has a fairly consistent outline: Guybrush, an intrepid young buccaneer and quest-giver, sets out to find the greatest treasure of all time, the legendary Big Whoop. He takes service from Skipp the Sailor, a haggard sea dog with a parrot on his shoulder and a penchant for drinking, and from Elaine the Dread Pirate Roberts, a beautiful young woman who offers Guybrush a training in the ways of being a female pirate. The game starts out episodic but becomes more open with each installment. In the first game, Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge, Guybrush comes across a portal to the town of Grabby Harbor and is lured into the town by LeChuck, a rich and ruthless vampire who attempts to seduce Elaine into a blood-sucking, relationship with him to learn the whereabouts of the Big Whoop. After rescuing Elaine from LeChuck, they escape on a sailing ship. In the second game, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Guybrush follows the mystic Wally in seeking the aid of Robert and his granddaughter Elaine in defeating the vampire LeChuck. After defeating LeChuck and retrieving the treasure, Guybrush and Elaine then escape from the \"Jellyfish Joke Shop\", a store that offers many jokes made in the video game. In the third game, Monkey Island 3: LeChuck's Revenge, he enters the store to again ask for the help of the two pirates in defeating the vampire.
Ion Storm released the first three Monkey Island games in October, 2000 and May, 2003 in Australia and December, 2003 in North America; the release dates were May 25, 2003 in Europe.[23] All were published by LucasArts, the first three and the fourth by Lucasfilm Games, and the fifth game by Telltale Games, who also released the remakes of the first four games, and the sixth game by Disney Interactive and Terrible Toybox in co-operation with Lucasfilm Games and Devolver Digital. Lucasfilm Games chose to not release an order for high definition releases, saying \"We don't want to release a game in HD when the fans would want to see the original version. We will, however, make the existing releases HD. We might also want to put out a HD version of the remakes\". 7211a4ac4a
