HOW TO APPROACH ABORIGINAL INFUSION IN APPLIED DESIGN

Philosophically, incorporating Aboriginal education in ADST will require teaching Aboriginal content explicitly, as well as incorporating the principles of Aboriginal learning into our classes with a greater regard to subtle and seamless implicit unit and lesson design.

In addition to the General Tips outlined on our resource main page (we strongly recommend reading that first), the role of ADST incorporating Principles of First Nations teaching focuses on:

  1. Recognizing traditional methods of design and production as intrinsically valuable methods of construction and contributing to various fields of technology.

  2. Developing an understanding of the changes in technology over the past 200 years and the place that indigenous crafting methods play in modern design and production.

Below you will find links to Grade Specific Guides that align Course Competency and Content with suggested strategies.
